How does Forward work with insurance?

Forward is completely independent of your health insurance - we don't bill anything we do to your health insurance plan.

This approach has some major advantages for us and for members:

  • No co-pays or fees - for anything we do onsite or as part of our practice, we will not send a bill to your insurance plan, which means we aren't required to charge you a co-pay, and you won't get a bill in the mail months later for things you didn't expect. If we ever do anything that takes you outside of our system (such as a specialist referral or a prescription we don't carry on-site), we'll make sure you know.

  • You're our customer, not your insurance plan - most doctors and hospitals operate on a "fee-for-service" basis, which means they're incentivized to conduct unnecessary procedures that are useless at best and dangerous at worst. In a traditional medical practice, you are not the customer - you are the product. We wanted to be aligned with our own customers to make sure we built a health system that treated people the way they deserve to be treated.

  • Insurance plans are decades behind - being able to talk to your doctor and care team via a mobile app is common sense. But a traditional doctor won't do it because they don't get paid to - there's no insurance billing code for a quick chat, and thus no reason for a normal doctor to do it. Because we don't need to worry about what your insurance will or won't cover, we were free to develop technologies like our app, interactive screen, and body scanner.
